When I arrived at school Monday morning, I swear I was still floating on a cloud. Ledger and I had spent most of the weekend in bed. I’d never done anything like that before. Sex had always been a bit of a chore. It had been fairly quick with my past partners, and then we’d go to sleep.

Sex with Ledger was nothing like that. We’d barely slept, and guess what? I didn’t even care. We were both insatiable. And I realized that I needed this. I needed to know how good it could be, and who better to show me what I’d been missing than the boy I’d loved my entire life?

Yes, I still felt some guilt about Jilly, but she was so caught up in the wedding right now that I certainly wasn’t going to talk to her about it. And after the wedding, Ledger would be gone, and we’d all go back to normal. There was no need to complicate things by telling her.

I’d had Sunday night dinner at my dad’s house last night, and Ledger had insisted on coming with me. And even that, just being at dinner with everyone and having him by my side, was nice. I’d explained that we’d been taking care of some wedding stuff for Jilly, and he’d just tagged along, and no one questioned it. It had been the best weekend I’d had in as long as I could remember.

But now I was back to reality.

I passed Tom, our maintenance guy, in the hall and waved at him.

“Good morning, Miss Thomas. Just a few more days now.”

“Yep. We’re almost done.” I pulled the door open to the gym and walked into the P.E. office. Tobias glanced up, and he looked like a man who’d been up late last night after a whole lot of booze. He had dark circles under his eyes and looked like he hadn’t slept as he sat behind his desk. He’d texted me multiple times again last night, and I didn’t show Ledger this morning when I saw the messages because he’d be dying to come down here and make a scene. That was not happening.

“Hello, beautiful,” he said, his voice sounding hoarse.

Seriously? That was what he was going to lead with, when I hadn’t even responded to a single message he’d sent.

“No,” I said, holding my hand up. “None of that. Listen, Tobias, texting me inappropriate messages in the middle of the night is highly unprofessional. I never gave you my number, and I’d appreciate it if you’d lose it as of today.
